What is parsley?
Parsley is an herb that is commonly used in cooking. It is native to the Mediterranean region, but is now grown worldwide. The two most common types of parsley are curly parsley and Italian (or flat-leaf) parsley. The leaves of parsley are used as a garnish or as a flavoring herb in a variety of dishes, such as soups, stews, and sauces. It is also rich in vitamin C and iron.
How do you cook with parsley?
Parsley can be used fresh or dried in cooking. It is often used as a garnish to add color and flavor to dishes. Here are a few ways to use parsley in cooking:
- Chopped parsley can be added to salads, sandwiches, and omelets as a garnish.
- Fresh parsley can be added to pasta dishes, such as spaghetti sauce or pesto.
- Parsley can be used to make a flavorful butter by mixing chopped parsley into softened butter. This can be used to top grilled meats or vegetables.
- Parsley can be used in making a chimichurri sauce, a traditional Argentine herb and garlic condiment.
- Parsley can be add to marinade for meat or fish dishes.
- Dried parsley can be used as a seasoning for soups, stews, and casseroles.
- Parsley oil, that made by blending fresh parsley leaves with oil, can be drizzled on pasta dishes, pizzas, and sandwiches to give a fresh herb flavor
It’s important to note that parsley should be added at the end of cooking, as the flavor will be lost if exposed to high heat for an extended period of time.
